Universities make a huge civic impact through a range of ways, be that through working together through civic university agreements, such as our Universities Partnership in Leicestershire, or via investment in local assets, jobs and the supply of skilled graduates as well as stimulating the innovation ecosystem and supporting local communities. By working together, Midlands Innovation universities can be catalysts for change and have the potential to make an even stronger contribution to the Midlands region.

Midlands Innovation is a pan-regional university partnership made up of eight research-intensive universities across the wider Midlands region. Our research collaborations and activity has a positive impact at a regional, national and global level.
By delivering ambitious place-based initiatives, we will tackle the region’s biggest challenges. Midlands Innovation has proven research strengths in energy, health, social sciences, space and transport and a strong track record collaborating in enterprise, research culture and research infrastructure. As the research and innovation landscape evolves, we intend to respond by developing new research themes where we can combine our collective strengths.
Midlands Innovation universities support over 78,000 jobs in the Midlands and make an estimated £10bn contribution to the economy. Our collaboration activity helped to generate £608m worth of investment into the region in 2020-21.
