Midlands Innovation is a proud sponsor and supporter of The UK Higher Education Technicians Summit (HETS), a biennial conference delivered by the The UK Institute for Technical Skills and Strategy (UK ITSS) that brings together technical staff from across the UK to share knowledge, network, and recognise excellence in the technical community.
Established by Midlands Innovation partners in 2015, HETS has become a cornerstone event for technicians, providing a platform to highlight the critical role they play in supporting research and education. The summit features a diverse range of sessions, including keynote speeches, workshops, and panel discussions, all designed to inspire and empower technical staff.
The conference offers opportunities for networking and professional development. Attendees can connect with peers, share best practices, and gain insights into the latest technological advancements and trends. The summit also provides a platform for technicians to discuss challenges and explore solutions, fostering a collaborative and supportive community.
500 technical professionals attended the previous event which took place in 2023 at the University of Warwick.
A highlight of HETS is the prestigious Papin Prizes, which recognise outstanding achievements and contributions made by technicians in higher education. Named after Denis Papin, a pioneering technician and inventor, these awards celebrate excellence across various categories, including teaching, research, and technical support.
In 2023, eleven outstanding technicians received Papin Prizes after a record-breaking 357 nominations were submitted, representing 67 higher education and research institutions.
